On 4 December 2022, The Digital Technologies Seniors Program (DTSP) at Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, led by Su Sueh Ing, held its first physical scam awareness talk in Mandarin for 30 senior citizens at Tien Tao Methodist Church in Sibu. The event was organized in response to a request from the local Chinese church community and was supported by two students from Swinburne Sarawak, Andrew Sim Shi Wei and Grace Lo Siew Ting, who are also part of the DTSP team as Cyber Ambassadors. The talk aimed to educate seniors about different types of scams and how to protect themselves, with the ultimate goal of empowering them to lead safer lives. The seniors were attentive and participated actively in the discussion, and the event ended with group photos and light refreshments.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>

The DTSP project team received positive feedback from the seniors, who reported feeling more informed and less fearful about scams. The two Cyber Ambassadors also expressed a sense of accomplishment in bridging the digital divide with senior citizens. DTSP was launched in November 2021 and aims to build a sustainable digital community in Sarawak through the development of modules by Swinburne Sarawak and its NGO partner, Persatuan Kebajikan Rolf Schnyder (FRS).
